The uncensored moment that Jonathan Goldberg QC blurted out the C-word live on BBC radio while describing the details of one his cases has been doing the rounds on the internet over the weekend.

Much of the amusement stems from the panicked response of 5 Live presenter Nicky Campbell, who lambasted the silk in the encounter on Friday by telling him, “sorry we cannot accept language like that”.

In fairness to Goldberg, the gaffe occurred while he was talking about the campaign to review the case of Sergeant Alexander Blackman, an ex-soldier was given a life sentence with a minimum of 10 years by a court martial following his 2013 conviction for killing an Afghan solider.

In the interview the North Square Chambers barrister was attempting to describe the extreme level of stress that Blackman would have been under. He said:

He [the Afghan soldier] had just been in a firefight and he is dying anyway because he had a great big hole in his back from the apache gunship that had just fired at him, and worst it was the coup de grace, that Blackman gave him. And he also says ‘It’s more than you would have done for us you c***’ and how right he is.

Nevertheless, the circumstances didn’t stop fellow lawyer Jonathan Dunkley slamming Goldman on Twitter.

Let’s just hope delicate Dunkley doesn’t stumble over the Twitter feed of 1 Gray’s Inn Square barrister Barbara Hewson.
