Why it’s time to stop carrying bags

By Alex Aldridge on

They’re just an extra item to carry

Bags are completely unnecessary in modern life, a pioneer of the no-bag movement has claimed.

Aishah Hussain regularly carries dozens of work items around with her by simply balancing them on top of each other and walking carefully.

“A good base is key … I usually use a laptop and they build upwards from there,” she says. “A pad of paper, a diary, a phone, pens, paper clips, stamps .. you name it, it’s just a case of layering vertically.”

Hussain continues: “A bag would simply be an extra item to carry. Why would anyone want that?”

When it’s put to her that she could put all these items into a bag, thus dramatically reducing the total number of things to carry, the 28 year-old journalist is dismissive.

“I don’t deal in hypotheticals, the day to day reality is that you can carry very large numbers of individual items if you balance them well and don’t walk too fast.”
