Game-changer for student events, says inventor Saad Kahlil
A once-aspiring corporate solicitor has left the legal world behind after inventing a printable name badge with a ready-made plastic cover — an innovation set to disrupt the in-person events market and potentially earn its creator millions.
Saad Khalil says he came up with the idea while working at Legal Cheek, where he witnessed first-hand how the outdated process of printing a name badge and then manually placing it into a plastic holder drove the site’s managing director to frustration.
“I remember thinking, there must be a better way,” Khalil recalls. “So one evening, while on a train back from a Secrets to Success event — though I can’t quite remember which city — I got to work.”
Using a mix of glue, a 3D printer, and ChatGPT, Khalil developed a unique product that has already caught the attention of several major name badge distributors.
“I messaged Alex to see if he’d be interested in trialling it at a Legal Cheek event, but his Slack status had the pizza logo — so I never heard back.”
