Partner hired ice cream van last month to appease sweaty solicitors
As the UK basks in yet another heatwave, lawyers at Eversheds will have their fingers crossed the generosity of partners will help them keep cool — again.
Readers may recall that earlier this month temperatures reached the mid 30s, something suited and booted solicitors may not have appreciated. Not content with nipping down to the local Tesco, one senior lawyer at Eversheds took it upon himself to hire an entire ice cream van.
According to one ice cream laden Legal Cheek insider, a van pulled up outside the firm’s Cambridge office and began dishing out 99s. The tipster also revealed that the mystery partner — presumably suffering from heat stroke — proceeded to pick up the tab.
Last month Eversheds — a firm that offers around 60 training contracts annually — recorded a 7% bump in revenue to £405.5 million. With profit per equity partner sitting at a tidy £742,000 for the financial year ending 2015/16, a few ice creams is unlikely to have broken the bank.
Ice cream perks aside, lawyers at the firm’s Cambridge outpost are paid considerably less than their City based counterparts. While lawyers in picturesque (and expensive) Cambridge pocket a still hefty £40,000 a year upon qualification, those in London — thanks to a 5% pay boost late last year — walk away with £62,000, a whopping £22,000 more.
