As the 31 July training contract application deadline nears, Legal Cheek Careers is teaming up with the Black Solicitors Network (BSN) and the Law Society to hold an event advising students on how to get their foot in the door at City law firms.

The free event — which is sponsored by US bar exam provider BARBRI International — will feature a host of big name lawyers from Herbert Smith Freehills, Hogan Lovells, King & Wood Mallesons, Mayer Brown, BPP University and the BSN. It takes place on the evening of Wednesday 6 July at the Law Society on Chancery Lane, central London.

An audience of 100 students will get to ask the lawyers any questions they like about how they made it in the City in an hour-long panel discussion from 6-7pm chaired by Legal Cheek publisher Alex Aldridge.

Afterwards, from 7-8:30pm, there will be a mini-law fair where students can network with the speakers and their organisation’s graduate recruitment teams over drinks and nibbles.

The speakers (pictured above, in order left to right) are: Ajay Pathak (Partner, King & Wood Mallesons), Amma Boakye (Associate, Hogan Lovells), Warsha Kalé (Of Counsel, Mayer Brown), Paul McFarlane (Board member, Black Solicitors Network; Partner, Weightmans), Kandice Horsey (Law lecturer and dual qualified trial lawyer, BPP Law School), and Sid Shukla (Associate, Herbert Smith Freehills).

Apply to attend here. You’ll be asked to submit a CV and two questions for the panel. The CVs of those offered places will be passed on to the graduate recruitment teams of the firms and other organisations participating in the event.

Students of all levels are welcome, but places are limited.
